History and tradition

The Sittnerhof farm hails from the Middle Ages, was part of the property of the Earl of Merano in the 14th century and become famous during the French Period because the farmer hid Andreas Hofer there and was shot for it. One of the cannonballs walled in the front of the house is a memorial to this event. In 1958 the Brunner Family, in addition to farming and livestock, opened the Hotel Sittnerhof, and later opened the Guesthouse Brunner. Father Franz Brunner farmed and cared for the livestock with two of his sons and Mother Rosa, along with her son Hansjörg and daughter Rosmarie, took loving care of the guests.

In 1971, Hansjörg married and in the year 1977, the farmyard, the guesthouse and the Hotel Sittnerhof were divided up between the children and Hansjörg, along with his wife Rosmarie and their three children, took over the hotel, which they still run today. The Hotel Sittnerhof has been remodeled again and again to be able to fulfill the wishes of the guests.
In 1971, the front building with the lounge and the fireplace was built, and in 1978 the rear room area and the indoor swimming pool were added on.

The entire south front area was redone in 1997, the underground garage and the outdoor swimming pool with a sunbathing lawn were added on and even the dining room was dramatically remodeled. The last “large” remodel has just taken place recently. The rear room section over the indoor swimming pool was completely renovated; a 4th story was added on and the greened flat roof has been turned into a fantastic sun deck.
In addition, the kitchen was redesigned and the sauna and spa area modernized. On the ground floor, where the spa area had previously been located, a sauna area was established with a Finnish and bio sauna, steam bath, Kneipp bath, crushed ice fountain, relaxation room and a tea corner, as well as a fitness room with modern equipment. The massage and beauty area was moved to the first floor next to the indoor swimming pool and made into a cozy, modern spa oasis.

During these years, the children grew up; the oldest daughter works in a bank, the youngest works in the hotel and the son, along with his wife and their two children, has been working on reviving the Café Saxifraga-Stub’n in the famous Tappeierweg walkway to its former brilliance since July 2001. This “jewel” had been empty and falling apart for over 30 years. With much patience, effort and attention to small details, the Saxifraga has been renovated to that what it once was. A piece of history rediscovered.
